A storied castle
For the first time in a thousand years, the doors of Oxford Castle (with all of its secrets) are open. The history of this place is not a fairytale: there was a lot of violence, murder, betrayal, and other events that the castle witnessed. The castle has been used as a prison since 1071, and remained as such until 1996. The old building has been preserved and takes you into the past. It is now open to the public. Admission is 7.5 pounds per person (and 6.20 for students). If you arrive by train, buy a ticket at the station and present it at the entrance to receive an entrance ticket valid for two.
