Our Lady of Copacabana Basilica

Copacabana, a nice Bolivian town on Lake Titicaca, 4 hours bus from Puno (Peru), very quiet and full of backpackers and artisans. It can climb to Calvary (we couldn't because Ro had fever during three days we were there), visit mannerist style church where the virgin of Copacabana (whole building is really impressive). The Basilica of Copacabana: a Moorish-style building built in 1550 is home to the Virgin Morena. The day we went there was a procession of cars and trucks decorated with floral arrangements that would bless the vehicle.

The basilica is located on the main...

The basilica is located on the main square of Copacabana, and also includes within its walls the Cathedral of the Virgin of Candelaña. The large white building offers within the usual monumental altar covered with icons and gilding, but what makes it unique is happening outside: Every morning, collects a line of cars and trucks, all covered with garlands and other colorful decorations. The owners have brought their vehicles there for them blessed by the priests of the basilica! Bodywork and engines are sprayed with beer and wine, and then past the round to celebrate the occasion with family and friends bottles.

Beyond the main avenue

Copacabana is a town, but to know you have to leave the strip. Some years ago, when an had not reached the overwhelming century, Copacabana was completely a 'mystical' city. I'm not talking about ghosts, there are, I do not mean to certain cultural beliefs, which are explcitas at Easter, but such a strong presence that quiz is half faith and half enajenacin, but it exists. From the comfort of hotels and good food, it must be beyond, down behind Calvary, for example, or venture into some lonely island gift of no "ningn attraction," (rather, not all arrived hand man). That air that brings the wind after crossing the vastness of the lake fills something more than our pores, as if to fill the quota of mystery we need. (That if children, they are not going to throw their rubbish all ...)

A beautiful church

Una iglesia hermosa

Excellent
To put candles to the dead people, to pray a little in the chapel, to walk and to see how the Spanish culture communicated the religion.
