A really unique place

Orgosolo is a town in the hills of the Sardinian interior whose inhabitants have garnered a reputation for rebellion. Beautiful murals

Orgosolo is a town in Nuoro region of Barbagia that’s famous for the beautiful murals that cover virtually every inch of its streets, shops and homes. One of the best times to visit is during the Nostra Sennora de Mesaustu (Our Lady of the Assumption) festival on August 15th. It’s a very beautiful and heartfelt event where the Madonna is carried through the village streets amid a grand procession of horses and traditional costumes. The horses are then run through the streets in groups of three. During the evenings, there is traditional Sardinian music and dancing.

Once famous for the film 'The bandits of Orgosolo'

Excellent

The town is now a popular tourist destination due to its collection of murals. The first works appeared in the late sixties when a Milanese anarchist theatre company was staying in town.

Murals in a similar vein have been added to the town walls ever since. Keep an eye out for some of the newer works by Baingili P. featuring local residents.
