Erasmus in Olomouc
In September 2009 I arrived in Olomouc. I knew nothing about the city and could not even pronounce its name correctly. Already Olomouc is one of my favorite places in the world. It is situated in the east of the Czech Republic in the Moravian region and has a population of approximately 100 000 inhabitants. Like most Central European cities, Olomouc has a river running through the city center. During the Renaissance, Olomouc was one of the most important cities of the Czech Republic and the Austro-Hungarian Empire. At that time, the city was the capital of the region of Moravia. The historical center is the most beautiful part of the city.
It has wonderful Baroque buildings, fountains, statues and typical bars and cafes where you can sample the famous Czech beer. There is a column of the Holy Trinity which has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site. I highly recommend that everyone ve has the chance should visit this place. I have fond memories and it will always be a special place for me.
