Old university

Face à la cathédrale de saint Denis se trouve un monument chargé d'histoire. Ce bâtiment est l'ancien université de la Réunion. En fait l'enseignement primaire a commencé à se développer dans l'ile dès le début du XIX ème siècle. Ce sera le baron Milius qui sera l'initiateur d'ouvrir des études supérieurs en 1820, ce fut un échec mais le projet fut reprit au XXème siècle malgré la difficulté lié à l'éloignement avec la métropole. Puis elle se développa de plus en plus et en 1965, on créa même un campus et en 1982 elle exerça sa fonction a plein régime.
