Highlight of Segovia's Jewish District
The Old Jewish District of Segovia is aesthetically beautiful for a post-lunch walk, but the best thing to see is the Old Main Synagogue, currently the Convent of Corpus Christi. Before the city's Jewry was expelled or forcibly converted, this was the main center of worship and focal point of the neighborhood.
The highlights are the circular stained glass windows and Moorish arches and latticed wood ceilings typical of Jewish architecture in the Iberian peninsula. The synagogue has been destroyed and reconverted several times in its history, most recently due to a fire in the late 19th century, but it has been lovingly restored down to the last detail.
You enter via a quiet courtyard and the entry fee is 1 euro. It's worth it getting there right when it opens in the afternoon so you can enjoy the peacefulness of the soft light filtering through the curved archways in peace.
