Fifteenth century
This building is in the center of the old town, on Estrechita Street near Republic Square. It was built in the fifteenth century by João Paes to accommodate a hospital for pilgrims on the Camino de Santiago. The current facade is the result of a sixteenth century reconstruction that emphasizes the image of a resurrected Christ in a niche and a heraldic shield on the front door. Inside there's a beautiful stone courtyard surrounded by arcades, where there was an exhibition of paintings. The outbuildings of the old hospital now house the tourist information office.
