Oia

This small coastal town, near Guarda, has the beautiful monastery of Santa Maria, located on the edge of the sea. It was built in the twelfth century and owes its appearance of strength to frequent pirate attacks on the shores. In fact, the monks themselves fired guns against a squad of North Africans, sinking one of their ships. Picture the scene.

This town is a small paradise located in the southwest of the province of Pontevedra, stroking the Atlantic Ocean along its 18 kilometers of coastline. Oia is sea and mountains. The sea offers visitors different products to delight the palate as the barnacle, the swimming crab, octopus or sea urchin, and a deep tranquility, allowing hear the whispers of the Atlantic. The topography of the territory favors the existence of a multitude of viewpoints, the viewpoint of the "Madalena" is a spectacular "balcony" from which you can enjoy stunning panoramic views of the coast. In the parish of Santa Maria de Oia we find the jewel of the town, which is leaning overlooking the vastness of the Atlantic, is the Cistercian Monastery of Santa Maria de Oia, Heritage Site, its foundation dates back to 1137. Rock art is one of the protagonists that shows here. Oia has more than 150 petroglyphs, petroglyphs highlighting A Cabeciña (Mougás), Auga two Cebros (Pedornes) and A Pedreira, in Santa Maria de Oia. Gastronomy is the undisputed star of the many food festivals held throughout the year. Furthermore, this cozy place retains an ancestral tradition in Galicia, the famous "Curros" or "Rapa of Beasts", which involves getting in a room called the wild horses gigs to proceed to cut off their manes. The different gigs celebrations were inaugurated in the month I May with the "Curro Valga". Note the existence of gigs in Mougás (May) and "das Curro Flies" (Mougás-August), Torroña (June), a second gigs in Valga "Curro das Flies" (in late July). Ride and sunset

Lugar lindo.
Sensational scenery to enjoy sitting in a bar having a beer, the coming and going of people between the shops while waiting for the sunset. Beautiful place.
