Oscar Lopez Castedo
First motel in San Francisco
This was the first motel in San Francisco, opened in April 1937 to celebrate the opening of the Golden Gate Bridge. In an era in which Edgar Hoover reigned over a conservative society, Ocean Park provided a relaxed, romantic atmosphere for couples where they could watch Pacific Ocean with glasses of champagne. The motel remains in the hands of the same family that opened it and stays true to the spirit of its origins.
It's located in a quiet area near Ocean Beach where you can see cyclists, runners, and surfers in the mornings. The zoo is also nearby and you can also reach Golden Gate Park fairly easily.
