Nungate Bridge

Nungate Bridge is the oldest and most historic city. In earlier times it was the only crossing point between the two sides of the river Tyne, that separates Haddington into two parts. The bridge that remains today dates from 1548, as the former bridge was destroyed (1282) during a siege. The bridge, about 30 meters long, is only for pedestrians and formerly connected the Cistercian convent with the church of St. Mary, hence its name. Built in stone, it offers beautiful views over the city, the church and the river Tyne. One of the emblematic places, it reflects the medieval past of this area.
