1 review of Fife Coastal Path

A region of traditional fishing villages

I have a special adoration for Scotland and the thousands of places there that I love. To start, the idyllic East Neuk is a region of traditional fishing villages that belong to the evocative "Ancient Kingdom of Fife." It's near Edinburgh so if you take an early bus, you'll have the whole day to visit the region. The villages, most built of stones 300 years ago, are like postcards from places that no longer exist. As it's also located on the coast and it's very green and hilly. There's a road you can take down to walk by the seashore or go biking which follows the Fife Coastal Route. There's a special ticket you can buy that allows you to get on and off the bus as often as you'd like.

The Coastal Route starts in Upper Largo and ends at St Andrews, the birthplace of golf. Between the sea, the medieval defensive towers and the stone farmhouses, there are bright green fields and Victorian golf clubs. As you walk through the vast and desolate landscape with the wind and the raging sea, you feel like a refugee as you reach each fishing village. But everyone is so welcoming. Pittenweem was especially great. I ate a delicious fennel soup and a fresh lobster there. Lastly, East Neuk is a blast for photographers.
