1 review of Nereid Monument

Spectacular jewel

No doubt the Nereid Monument is one of the most spectacular jewels of the British Museum. Located in room 17, on the ground floor, in the section for ancient Greece and is estimated to be from between 390 and 380 BC. It is a sepulchral building discovered in what is now Turkey and is of such magnitude that it seems incredible that it could be carried to London. Reflects Greek and Persian influences and the monument has the form of a Greek temple. Furthermore, this is the first known example of temple-tomb. Although many people accused the English of exploitation, it is a luxury to see all these works together in the British Museum, which otherwise would surely be much more damaged or have disappeared.
