Montmartre

Who wouldn't love to explore the Paris of 50 or 60 years ago, or the Paris of the 19th century inhabited by writers and artists from around the world?

Two places where artists like Picasso, Modigliani, Pissarro, Van Gogh, Matisse, Renoir, Degas, and Toulouse-Lautrec chose to live were Montparnasse, on the Rive Gauche, on Montmartre, on the Rive Droit.

Set on a high hill crowned by the Sacré Cœur, today's Montmartre is far from being the engine of Parisian art that it was during its glory days of cabarets and theaters. However, it's still an amazing visit. It's impossible to visit

A place to lose yourself, it's a beautiful neighborhood, from the metro station to the cemetery, there are beautiful and mythical corners emblematic of Paris. The shops, the art galleries, the pubs, the boulangeries (bakeries), the small squares, the Sacre Coeur Basilica, the Place du Tertre, everything is beautiful and wholly Parisian. The bohemian air and the artistic diversity really make it beautiful to behold. Very recommendable.

Until the 19th century, Montmartre was actually a village that was finally annexed by Paris in 1860s. It still retains its village feel and makes for one of the most fascinating areas of the Ville Lumière.

It's a bohemian neighborhood where the best French artists of the 19th century lived and worked. It’s the neighborhood of the Can-Can and absinthe, of cabarets and sex shops.

Montmartre is bordered by Avenue de Rochechouart and Avenue Clichy to the south, Rue Caulaincourt to the north, and Montmartre Cemetery to the west. The symbols of this neighborhood are the iconic Moulin Rouge and the Sacre Cœur Basilica.

Which is a basilic that you should do ! In the area you will find lots of pedestrian streets with small shops ( touristic ones ) and food.

It's uphill, but one up you can admire the Sacre Coeur in Paris, it's priceless and, of course, it's worth the effort!
