Naxos Kastro

During both day and night, the remains of the Venetian castle that crowns the city of Chora is a really interesting place to visit. It was constructed during the Venetian occupation of the Cyclades Islands and the city developed around it, so that its inhabitants could take refuge inside the castle if an Ottoman pirate attacked. Today, as I said, the only remaining part of the castle is the tower, but the houses which were built using the original city walls are known as the Kastro.
