Pier Park is the amusement park at Navy Pier. The star attraction is a gigantic ferris wheel 150 feet high, from which you can get spectacular views of the Chicago skyline. It has 40 gondolas which seat up to 6 people and it was built for the Chicago World's Fair of 1893. But there are other attractions such as miniature golf, a carousel-style musical of the 20s, a lake with remote control boats, or the "Wave Swinger" (swivel chairs).
Unlike most American cities, Chicago can be visited on foot. Squares, parks and sidewalks make it a pedestrian's paradise. But like any big city, it also has public transport. Most cost money, but the trolley to Navy Pier is free. Navy Pier Trolley connects the port to the rest of the city. The pier is very popular and full of fun activities, so the trolley too is often busy with people heading to this famous meeting point.
This fresh air at this pier can't be found in many places. It's like someone had managed to clean the air. It really awakens the child in you. It enjoyed it without thinking that the next day I would not be there. It's like opening your eyes and finding you're in a different world, perhaps somewhere more innocent.
Early part of 2018, construction was going on to build a hotel, movie theater and kids museum were still open though. Watch for the birds if you eat at the McDonald's.
Great place to share your time with family, you can walk for the border of the lake, very romantic too
