Navy Memorial

We had not visited this area for some time so we went to the town of Nigran, with its great monument to Universal Marina, right on top of Monteferro. The Navy Memorial is a large granite monolith 25 meters high with a bronze sculpture of the Virgen del Carmen, patron saint of sailors with baby Jesus. Built in 1903, it was designed by the architect Manuel Gómez Román Vigo, designer of several other landmarks in the city. Note that this monolith is a tribute to all the sailors who were buried at sea.
