International Douro Natural Park

Este parque natural está formado por unos impresionantes cañones formados hace 100 millones de años siguiendo el cauce del río Duero, haciendo una frontera natural entre España y Portugal. El parque tiene más de 106.000 hectáreas, ocupando unas 68 localidades de las provincias castellano-leonesas de Salamanca y Zamora (comarca de Sayago), y la comarca portuguesa de Tierra de Miranda. Es un profundo cañón (el más profundo y extenso de la Península Ibérica) de paredes rocosas graníticas que pueden llegar a alcanzar alturas de más de 200 metros, por el que el Duero discurre encajonado, abriéndose un hueco. Este peculiar paisaje es llamado también los Arribes del Duero, y en él se da un microclima especial más cálido del que debería tener por su situación geográfica (media anual de unos 15º C), lo cual posibilita el cultivo -en bancales o terrazas- de naranjos, almendros, olivos y viñas (se cultiva una cepa autóctona de la zona, la "Juan García", que da lugar a los vinos con D.O. Arribes). Esta orografía, prácticamente inaccesible para el hombre, hace que en la zona vivan animales como la cigüeña negra, el águila real, el buitre leonado o el gato montés. Asimismo, los pueblos que se asientan en los alrededores de este P.N mantienen su peculiar arquitectura rural y sus costumbres, por los que parece no haber pasado el tiempo, como en Fermoselle (Zamora). Para disfrutar enteramente de este parque natural, lo mejor es hacer el [poi=89596]Crucero Ambiental[/poi] en catamarán, partiendo de la Estación Biológica Internacional de Miranda do Douro (aunque creo que hay alguna empresa más que los ofrece), y por supuesto, hacer una ruta en coche visitando los distintos miradores y pueblos como Fermoselle, la presa de Almendra y Bermillo de Sayago en Zamora, o Miranda do Douro, Sendim y Bemposta (con su embalse) en el lado portugués. A la salida de Miranda, por la ctra que va hacia Zamora hay un [poi=89716]Centro de Interpretación[/poi].

En el corazón del parque natural Arribes del Duero se encuentra este precioso centro de interpretación de la raza asnal zamorano-leonesa, actualmente en peligro de extinción. Una experiencia maravillosa con los burritos, dándoles de comer, cepillándolos, paseando con ellos. Los niños disfrutan o grande, a la vez que aprenden sobre esta raza. Ubicada en un entorno tan maravilloso como es el parte natural Arribes del Duero, la experiencia ha sido inolvidable. Especialmente para mí, que me he sentido trasladada a mi infancia, recordando aquel burrito que tuve en mi niñez, con el que los niños del pueblo jugábamos. Además de unas estupendas instalaciones, sin barreras arquitectónicas, y un buen servicio, el [poi=2190257]Aula del asno[/poi] posee una tienda verde, donde entre diferentes artículos relacionados con el asno zamorano-leonés, cabe destacar la venta de productos cosméticos elaborados con leche de burra, tan beneficiosa para nuestra piel. Recomendadas para personas con diferentes problemas cutáneos (psoriasis, ezcema, acné, cicatrices,..) además de ser un poderoso antiarrugas. Por otro lado, tienen una amplia oferta de actividades didácticas, orientadas a la sensibilización medioambiental y la difusión y conocimiento de esta raza, contribuyendo, de este modo, a la lucha contra su extinción. Merece la pena visitar este centro de interpretación y aprovechar la visita para dar un paseo por el bonito pueblo de Villalcampo, donde te sentirás trasladado a otra época: sus habitantes continúan trabajando con estos animales, y es fácil verlos pasear por el pueblo con ellos, incluso a mujeres de avanzada edad vestidas con el atuendo típico de la zona. Cerca se encuentra el "Salto de Villalcampo", de imprescindible visita. También por la zona puedes realizar un viaje en barco por las aguas del río Duero, donde se aprecian los arribes desde otro hermoso punto de vista.

Cambiante y bellísimo, el río que aguas arriba fluye manso y poco correntoso, al acercarse a Portugal se encajona y salva desniveles de 500 metros en pocos kilómetros. Modelada en empinados bancales cubiertos de viñas que se asoman al río desde los inaccesibles desfiladeros, cubierta de bosques de robles, y plantaciones de olivos y almendros, la región de Los Arribes -protegida dentro de un Parque Natural- está poco habitada y sus accesos son escasos. Esto hace que la Naturaleza tenga una presencia abrumadora. A veces desde el coche, otras a pie a través de los innumerables senderos que lo surcan, el variado y agreste paisaje deja a uno sin palabras. Todo parece recién creado: El silencio y los sonidos llenos de ecos, las aguas verdinegras del Duero, las frescas cascadas, los aromas a jara y a retama, el color del cielo. Reyes absolutos del sugestivo panorama, los buitres leonados y las águilas perdiceras sobrevuelan los desolados farallones que alcanzan alturas de hasta 200 metros. Aquí y allá se emplazan tranquilísimos pueblos dedicados a la vida rural. Según sean salmantinos o zamoranos pertenecen a distintas comarcas, separadas, en un tramo, por el río Tormes. Las villas salmantinas están incluidas en El Abadengo, una comarca que tiene en San Felices de los Gallegos un vivo ejemplo de fortificación de frontera. Los pueblos zamoranos, pertenecientes a la antigua Tierra de Sayago y dispersos en un mar de campos de cereal, cuentan una historia que comenzó cuando se establecieron allí vetones y celtas. Pero el río Duero, el ‘Durius flumen’, no distingue entre provincias ni comarcas. Tampoco entre países. Sea desde España o Portugal, Los Arribes y su espectacular belleza son de todos.

Mi visita al Parque Natural del Duero Internacional ha sido de lo más gratificante. Para conocer más de cerca este entorno decidí hacer una excursión fluvial por el Duero. Me informé y reservé el crucero ambiental. La zona de embarque está situada junto a la presa de Mirando do Douro en la frontera con la provincia de Zamora, a una hora aproximadamente de Salamanca o Zamora. Para llegar hasta el embarcadero fué de lo más sencillo, atravesamos el puente que cruza el Duero que separa España y Portugal y seguimos las indicaciones que aparecen inmediatamente a la derecha, fuimos a parar justo al aparcamiento, canjeamos los ticket en la taquilla y nos pusimos en la fila junto con las demás personas que iban a realizar el paseo y a esperar que viniera el navío. El embarque fue todo un éxito, los monitores lo tienen todo muy bien organizado. Ya dentro de la embarcación y cuando todos habíamos ocupado nuestro asiento, nos pusimos en marcha. Primeramente nos informaron de la nave, lo especialmente que está preparada con motores insonorizados para no perturbar a la fauna que allí habita y a continuación un monitor y una grabación te van señalando de todos los puntos más importantes del itinerario. Como la embarcación lleva el techo panorámico de cristal íbamos observando el paisaje del Parque Natural Internacional desde todos los lados, así como algunas aves, detalles de geología y de vegetación. La excursión duró una hora aproximadamente, al regreso nos dejaron subir a la terraza exterior para tirar todas las fotos posibles desde aquel entorno tan espectacular. Cuando llegamos al embarcadero nos tenían preparado un vasito de vino de Oporto, que por cierto estaba buenísimo, mientras degustábamos el vino nos hicieros una pequeña exhibición con un búho real. Como opinión personal a sido uno de los lugares más bonitos que he visitado, ver el río Duero encajonado en el canón, haciendo de separación entre España y Portugal con un paisaje tan impresionante.., es difícil de olvidar tal maravilla.

Hay varias presas, una de ellas sirve para aprovechar la energía del salto de agua y sobre ella se extiende un gran embalse, por el que navega un barco turístico en el que cuentan interesantes historias y hacen un repaso de la fauna del lugar. El trayecto es precioso y la zona en general también lo es.

Todo la verdad es que mi consejo no dejeis de visitarlo y dedicarle 4 ó 5 días por que si es menos os quedareis con las ganas.
