I visited the Serra da Estrela Natural...

I visited the Serra da Estrela Natural Park during Easter. It is considered the highest elevation of continental Portugal. It is 1993 meters above sea level and is located between the towns of Seia and Covilha.

At first it looked like there was not any snow but as we continued to go up the landscape changed to the point of seeing lots of snow and the fog that continued until the end. We went up to small store that was at the top, where they sold everything, including fur items like gloves, hats, etc. They also had coffee, so we had a delicious hot coffee and took some photographs. There were some cars parked there as it was impossible to keep going.

On the way back, we passed by Seia and walked around looking for restaurant and as we were at a little late. We stopped for lunch at a great restaurant almost on the same road, but at the end of the village which is called "O Abrigo da Floresta". Http :/ /'https://www.minube.com/rincon/61201' The real altitude of 1993 meters is at the top, called "The Tower", the highest point that belongs to the district of Guarda.

At the sierra, there is also the Vodafone Ski Resort, the only ski resort in Portugal. There is snow cover from December to April and is sometimes aided by cannons that produce artificial snow. The Vodafone Ski Resort only has infrastructure for winter sports including modern lifts and equipment rental for skiing and snowboarding. The British company has sponsored Portuguese skiing since 2005 and is also responsible for the remodeling, hence the name Vodafone.

When I visited Guarda it was in the month of December, and one of the things that really surprised me was the thick fog that covered the entire city. This is because the city itself is in the middle of the Sierra de Estrella Natural Park. The Natural Park covers an area of about 101,000 hectares, it is the largest protected area in Portugal. In it you can find differing landscapes, from the country's highest massif in Torre (1993 meters above sea level), the huge boulders of Càntaros, the Videmonte plateau or the Zęzere glacial valley. The Serra da Estrela Natural Park has some unique plant species to the country and has been declared a Biogenetic Reserve.

Also broom, heather, black oak and juniper are plentiful. As for the wildlife, animals like wolves,the common buzzard, foxes, quail, muskrat and otter Iberian abound.

Pertence à cordilheira, Sistema Central, com mais duas serras, Sierra de Gredos onde se situa o Pico Almanzor e os seus 2.592 que é o pico mais alto do Sistema Central, e a Sierra de Guadarrama em Espanha. A Serra da Estrela é o ponto mais alto de Portugal Continental, a altitude máxima situa-se nos 1993 m na zona da Torre. No Inverno é costume ficar coberta de branco e de turistas que procuram fazer caminhadas pela serra e diversão nas estâncias de esqui. A meio caminho entre Seia e a Torre fica a mais alta aldeia habitada de Portugal, Sabugueiro, onde pode comprar enchidos, queijos, pão de centeio, mel e artesanato local.

The Serra da Estrela is the highest point in mainland Portugal, the maximum altitude is located at 1993 m in the Tower. In winter it is customary to be covered in white and tourists looking for mountain hiking and fun in the ski resorts. Halfway between SEIA and Tower is the highest inhabited village in Portugal, Elderberry, where you can buy sausages, cheese, rye bread, honey and local crafts.
