A shopping street
La Rue Nationale extends from the central Place Jean Jaurès to near the river Loire and the Anatole France square. It is the backbone of the centre, running from north to south, and extending to Grandmont Avenue, the longest in France. La Rue Nationale was built after the 2nd World War, following the destruction of the area by German bombs. Today it's a wide pedestrianised street, with no cars but with buses and bikes. It's full of different shops, including the city's clothing stores (Naf Naf, C&A, Fnac, etc). If you're hungry, I recommend the Mie Caline, with good sandwiches and pastries for reasonable prices.
