New institute in contrasting environment
Naist stands for "Nara Institute of sciece and Technology", in Spanish "Center for Advanced Science and Technology, Nara". It is a Japanese technology center "daigaku-in" (which means that students are all post-graduate) made up of 3 areas: Life Sciences, Information Sciences and Materials Science. The campus is new (it is less than 15 years old), so that contrasts enough with the environment in which it is found, on the outskirts of Ikoma, a residential area surrounded by hills and rice fields.
