Unforgettable!
Isla Tasajera is located on the coast of Latin America's smallest country: El Salvador. Turtle liberation season runs from August to December, so if you're traveling to El Salvador during that time, witnessing the spectacle is a must. Really, it's unforgettable. First, you take a boat to the island, which is bordered on one side by the sea and by a bird-and-mangrove-filled river on the other. Then, you spend the night on the island wandering the seashore in search of nesting sea turtles or, if you get tuckered out, just relaxing in the sand by the waves waiting for the dawn. In the morning, you can go and search for newly-born sea turtles and witness their incredible scramble for the sea.
There they are...all together...ready to embark on the journey of their lives! One tip: if you're going to spend the night there, don't forget the bug spray! Also, remember that sea turtles are endangered species so this kind of tourism contributes much-needed funds to local conservation efforts.
