My Friend´s Place
My Friend's Place is in Air Batang (ABC village as it is generally called) on the island of Tioman. When you get off the boat at the dock of Air Batang, go to the right, and it is five minut walk. There are no cars on the island, only golf carts and all the people go by foot or by bike. The hostel My Friend's Place has 8 wooden bungalows on the edge of a beautiful beach. Prices are cheap, two people can sleep for less than 10 euros, and there is a kitchen to prepare your own food, but as it is an island, the store prices are relatively high, eating fried rice at a food stand is hardly more expensive than cooking for yourself.
The owner is a young man from the island who speaks perfect English, and it's always nice to be cared for by the owners. The beach is in front of the hotel, and it has the most beautiful sunsets, but for snorkeling, it is better to get close to the dock where you got off the ship. The sea is very shallow, and with a meter of water it is amazing the amount of fish that can be seen here. Near the hotel there is a diving school, if you want to see more of the fishes!
