Great day trip
Muthill is a small village in the district of Perthshire & Kinross, on the River Earn. It was founded as a settlement of the Celi De monks, a Celtic monastic order of the Catholic Church, so it's no surprise that the major attractions of the town are its churches. The oldest is now dilapidated, but still well-preserved for a building that has stood for nearly 1000 years. The more recent church is still in operation, and dates back to the sixteenth century. Muthill was also a strategically important site in the Jacobite Uprising and the Battle of Sheriffmuir, both in the eighteenth century. The local population is very friendly, and there are plenty of places to buy handicrafts, eat and drink, or just take a walk through the town and appreciate the rural architecture.
