1 review of Museum of Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando

Tragically Unknown

While everyone knows the Prado, Thyssen, and Reina Sofia museums, there exists one museum in Madrid that often goes overlooked, in spite of quality of its collection. This is the Museo de la Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando, located on Alcalá Street only a few meters from la Puerta del Sol.
Besides its permanent collection where we can contemplate works by Goya (who was a member of the Academy), Zurbarán, Ribera, Leandro Bassano, Rubens, and others, there is also a sculpture exhibit where the pieces stretch from the 17th century all the way to the present.
As a consequence

Of the didactic character of the Academy, there is a Drawing Chamber, which holds an important collection of architectural plans and drawings which have been collected since the 16th century.
