Museum and Train Station

The railway station of São João Del Rei is a journey back in time as it is 130 years since it was openedIt back in 1881. It is an elaborate and intricate iron structure. It acts as a railway station for regular trains and the famous train to Tiradentes. At the station there is a Railway Museum with perfectly preserved locomotives and among others, the locomotive number 1 which was used in the inaugural trip in 1881. Among the passengers were Emperor Pedro II and Empress Tereza Cristina .. The museum building was the old railroad freight warehouse.
