The Civic Aufidenate Museum is located in the town of Castel di Sangr. The museum was created in 1898 as the Aufidena Museum, after the then mayor of Castel di Sangro, Colonel Clement Marchionne. Historians of the period, the first being Vincent Balzano, really wanted to open a place that housed all of the archaeological objects found in the area. He was born in an era when they were outlining the actual position of the ancient city of Aufidena.
