5 reviews of Mui Ne Sand Dunes

Silence and tranquility

In the red dunes of Mui Ne there are girls ve rent plastic sheets to be used as sleds. Talking to them it is quite clear that this is their way of life, probably chosen by their parents, instead of going to school. They speak English better than other children of their age, but not going to school may end up taking its toll on them as adults. It is part of the harsh reality of many families in Southeast Asia and it is difficult for us to know what is the right thing to do. In any case, one can not expect great speeds as those achieved in the dunes of Natal, so it can be a bit disappointing. You pay no more than €0.5 per pull.

A few km from the town of Mui Ne, heading north, you find the Red Sand Dunes an you don't need any special transport to access them. You can get to the foot of the dunes on a motorcycle or bike along the main road. The bars next to the road offer to take care of your bike or scooter and keep in the shade and wait for you to have a drink at their bar. You have to ask the price. The area occupied by these dunes is not huge, but it is enough to take pictures and enjoy a very beautiful descent through some of them. Although few tourists come to Mui Ne (compared to other parts of Vietnam) there are often too many people on the dunes. The dunes overlook the sea and part of the fishing village of Mui Ne. It is highly recommended to enjoy silence and tranquility, providing the heat is not sweltering.

Mui Ne´s Dunes

The dunes of Mui Ne are in Vietnam! We were there on a rainy day which was a shame because they must be beautiful when the sun's out, especially being able to see the sea in clear weather. But we had great time because we could slide down the dunes (thanks to ultra sophisticated sleds rented there for the children, commonly called "cartoons"), launching our friends onto the sand ... GREAT!

Natural wonders

Maravillas naturales

Desert Arena Blanca is the most impressive because it comes from nowhere in the countryside and has several kilometers of extension. There is almost as visitors and spend the first dune and think you are in the middle of a great desert, surrounded by sand everywhere. Red Desert Arena is less spectacular, is not so immense and is more frequented by Vietnamese who will spend the afternoon. One of the attractions to be found in these deserts is slide down the dunes with plastic sleds. Nothing more children reach the desert you begin to pursue you rent them to the sled. No big deal, but you end up accepting.

La dune du Pilat made in Vietnam !
