Haleakala is breathtaking. It is like stepping into another world, especially compared to the rainforests in Maui. It is a long drive up the mountain, and it's worth taking lots of stops as there a wonderful views at every turn. At the top, the rocks look like a moonscape and the vegetation, like art!
We woke up at 2am in order to take a bus to the top of Mt. Haleakala in Maui. When we arrived at the summit, it was still dark, and around freezing, but as soon as the sun started to rise over the clouds, the temperature rose with it. We were amazed by the brilliant colors and the slowly moving clouds that rolled over the crater. An experience we will never forget.
