A folk tradition
If you wander through the narrow streets of London, you may come face to face with a gang of men dressed in white, in strange costumes, with bells hanging on pegs. If they start dancing in the street while waving white handkerchiefs, you're in luck: they are Morris Dancers! This British folk tradition dates back to the fifteenth century and was invented by soldiers after the war in Spain. The dance is supposed to represent the great battles of that military campaign.
