This monument, dedicated to Joao Afonso, was funded by the Ministry of Public Works. The Portuguese sculptor Cunha Vaz unveiled it on the 5th of July, 1959, and it is bronze on a limestone pedestal. It represents one of the men who made a large contribution to the history of Portugal, having participated in the expedition to the Minas (1481), and the discovery of the Rivers Zaire and Congo.

It is close to the Moliceiros.

Las tiendas así que no cuesta nada ver la estatua y siempre recomiendan verla. Al lado hay un puesto de comida, en el que puedes pedir los dulces típicos de allí.
The shops so it costs nothing to see the statue and always recommend seeing it. Next door there is a food stand, where you can order the typical sweets from there.
