Monumento a Bento Quirino

A tradicional Praça Bento Quirino fica localizada bem no centro de Campinas e é um dos mais famosos pontos da cidade, inclusive por ser o local do Marco Zero. A região é extremamente movimentada e quem passa pela praça não deixa de notar o belíssimo monumento que homenageia o ilustre campineiro. Para quem não sabe, Bento Quirino foi um dos mais importantes comerciantes da região e anos depois viria a ser eleito vereador pelo Partido Republicano. Ajudou a fundar a Sanasa, o Colégio Culto a Ciência, a Creche Bento Quirino, o Colégio Técnico Bento Quirino, entre outros, além de ter sido também presidente da Mogiana Estradas de Ferro. Nada mais justo então que esse importante personagem da história de Campinas fosse homenageado. O monumento foi oficialmente inaugurado em 1918, quatro anos após sua morte e foi obra do artista italiano Amadeu Zeni. A obra foi primeiramente colocada em um dos saguões do Colégio Bento Quirino e foi consequentemente transferido para a praça de mesmo nome em 1937, ano em que completaria seu centenário. O monumento foi executado em bronze e traz uma escultura em corpo inteiro de Bento, sentado e com olhar para o horizonte. Esse monumento é sem dúvidas um dos mais belos e simbólicos de Campinas e realmente vale a pena conhece-lo. Traditional Praa Bento Quirino is located in the center of Campinas and one of the most famous spots of the city, including for being the site of Ground Zero. The region extremely busy and passers by in the square fails to notice the belssimo monument that honors the illustrious Campinas. For those in the know, Bento Quirino was one of the biggest traders in the region and years later would be elected councilor for the Republican Party. Helped found the Sanasa, the Colgio Cult of Science, the Creche Bento Quirino, the Colgio Technician Bento Quirino, among others, besides being also president of Mogiana Railroads. It is only fair then that this important character in the history of Campinas were honored. The monument was officially opened in 1918, four years after his death and was the work of Italian artist Amadeo Zeni. The work was first placed in one of the SAGUES Colgio Bento Quirino and was subsequently transferred to the square of the same name in 1937, when it would complete its centenary. The monument was executed in bronze and brings a sculpture in full body Benedict, sitting and looking at the horizon. This monument without doubts one of the most beautiful and simblicos of Campinas and really worth it knows it.
