Monument to the Emigrant

1 review of Monument to the Emigrant

Monument to the Emigrant

Many of the inhabitants of Póvoa emigrated to other countries in seventeenth-century to Brazil in search of gold, and others in the nineteenth due to a reduction in traditional fishing craft. Therefore, there are 2 monuments dedicated to poveiros emigrants: One (the most famous) is on the top of Mount San Felix, and this more modest one in Plaza Luis Camões. It's a sculpture depicting a migrant with a double face (figuratively the departure and return) and a commemorative inscription. It was financed by a businessman of Poveiro Manuel Marques Agony.
