Monument to the Abbot of Baçal

The Monument to the Abbot of Baçal is in a garden square in the upper level of D. Antonio José de Almeida Gardens. It's a bronze bust of Francisco Manuel Alves (abbot of the parish of Baçal) who dedicated his life to collecting archaeological, historical and ethnographic items from the Tras-Os-Montes region (the complete collection is at the Museum of the Abbot of Baçal). The bust is on a stone pedestal with a semicircular base with a commemorative inscription.
