2 reviews of Montezuma Castle National Monument

A really interesting monument

This national monument is located halfway between Phoenix and Flagstaff, near Valle Verde. The castle is built into the rock and has 20 rooms that were inhabited by a group of people who fled the area in 1400 for reasons that remain unknown today. The area was declared a national monument on December 8, 1906. It's a really interesting monument, and it makes a great place to stop for a rest if you are traveling from Sedona to the Grand Canyon.

This is the absolute best preserved Indian dwelling I have ever seen, and being from the southwest US I've seen many

Excellent

And being from the southwest US I've seen many. I would even venture to say that it is even better preserved than anything I've ran across at Mesa Verde in Colorado.
