Monte Marmagna

At 1851m this is the highest mountain in the Parma Apennines. There is some debate about the actual height +/- 1m but since the earth is prone to movement in this area both could have been correct. Less than 1.5hrs driving time from Parma, climbing Marmagna is rewarding whatever the season. On a clear day from the summit cross there is a good chance of seeing the Ligurian coast and the ridge of the Apuane alps.

A number of trails of varying steepness leave for Marmagna from Lagdei. In either ascent or descent be sure to include one which passes by Lago Santo and Rifugio Mariotti. The blue/green lake is full of leaping fish and the cosy Rifugio has a small dining room with a menu based around traditional Parma cuisine and Km zero products.
