Site of historical interest
Approaching the town of Alloa from Stirling, in the area of Sauchie, by chance we found the remains of a windmill, after catching a glimpse of it between the trees. We got out of the car to take a closer look, and immediately lost it! When we finally found it again, we went close to inspect it. It's not tall, and the shape reminded us of a medieval tower. Windmills are rare in this part of Scotland, but research later told us that it was built during the eighteenth century to pump energy to an existing mine. It was totally revolutionary at the time, and when the mine was later abandoned, the mill was used for storage.
