4 reviews of Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna

GNAM is located in a monumental building close to Villa Borghese

The museum is open daily and the entrance fee is 8 euros. On entering you are faced with a large expanse of cracked mirror upon which a selection of classical sculptures are perched. Through the window a large bronze statue, coved in bird poo, of a far too realistic bacchanalian revel can be seen. Down long corridors of doorways intriguing marble statues can be glimpsed. The layout of this museum stimulates the desire to explore in the visitor.

We had come to see a series of photos taken on the sets of film maker Michelangelo Antonioni. But we discovered the ink work of Pablo Echaurren who explores the interface between comics and modern art and Fausto Maria Franchi was spotted showing friends round his exhibition of beautiful organic silverware.

The permanent collection hosts plenty of big names; Max Ernst, Duchamp, Man Ray, Giacometti and Moore to name but a few. Alongside these super stars you can see the works of lesser known Italian artists of from the same artistic school or period. Fascinating! Allow sufficient time for study and the relax in the surrounding park afterwards.
