French-style castle in Belgium
The impressive castle on a rocky outcrop in the valley of Hoyoux, 14 km from Huy. Consists of 2 parts: the castle itself and the hotel (where I stayed one night). The Castle was built in the 13th century, although its current appearance is the result of the reforms introduced in the 17th century by Jean-Gaspard-Ferdinand de Marchin with very Frenchified taste. It's a huge castle, consisting of 20 rooms, each more impressive than the last. Particularly striking is the richly decorated walls and ceilings with stucco (Jean-Christian work Hansche), coffered ceilings, crown molding, and even the pedigree of Count Marchin.
You can visit the dining room, the bedroom, the lounge... The rooms have period furniture, paintings, sculptures, tapestries. Collection of over a thousand pieces of nineteenth century porcelain from France, black marble fireplace, and pictures of Hercules.
