Mljet Paths
Mljet National Park is not especially big, but if you want to see it it is best to rent a bike. There are several places to hire bicycles by the entrance to the park, in Pomena and the price is affordable for all budgets, as they charge 7 euros for the day. They are high-end bikes and beautifully maintained. The tour begins in Pomena and runs through the park to get to the other town of Mljet, Polace. There are about 5 km full of hills but you can stop at any time to dip in the crystal clear water as you go around the lakes and part of the sea. The road is sandy but very depressed, so it's no problem to go by bike.
On the way you enjoy wonderful scenery, as it is all covered with trees and vegetation. Mind you, I recommend going early in the morning. From 12.00 there are many shadows along the way. At Polace you can see a Roman palace from the 5th century. It's stunningly beautiful. Its base is rectangular and in the front corners are two polygonal towers separated by a landing. Every corner of Mljet is worth seeing, and the advantage is that even though many people go throughout the year it always seems like you're alone in the middle of nature, because each visitor is at a different point and you do not usually meet crowds.
