1 review of Misericordia Church

Beautiful religious building

The Church of Mercy is adjacent to the Parish Church of Santa Maria, in a small square that's practically attached to Plaza de Camões. It's one of the most beautiful religious buildings in the city, in Baroque style in the seventeenth century, with a granite facade which is accessed via a staircase. The roof is preceded by a portico formed by arches supported by eight twisted columns. The church has a single nave and its most striking feature is that all the interior walls are decorated with traditional blue and white Portuguese tiles, depicting biblical scenes. The Mayor altarpiece is Baroque,

Pretty ornate and a golden color.
