Metropolis details

A well-known, highly photographed, and greatly admired building by practically each and every tourist that visits Madrid, as well as a silhouette recognized by those who have never stepped foot in Madrid. The Metropolis’s 45 meters in height located at the foot of Madrid’s busy Gran Via doesn’t go unnoticed. The insurance company Metropolis has occupied the building since 1972 and has been in charge of restoring its façade and taking care of this iconic work of art ever since.

Some time ago, I posted several night photos of the building, but today strolling down Gran Via, I realized that its dome wasn’t the only thing worth seeing, rather that there are other details of the building that usually fall under the radar that deserve a closer look. For example, the delicately-made wrought-iron entrance doors and the sculptures standing on both sides of the entrance are sights not to miss. I recommend that you take time to look at the entire building, instead of just paying attention to its famous dome. I’ll put a few pictures up so you can judge for yourself. I wasn’t able to photograph the entire building, though :).

Madrid is so lovely

Excellent

I’ve lived in the Spanish capital for 10 years and I still continue to visit this building. I love taking the Metro from my apartment and, in twenty short minutes, I arrive at the Banco de Espana metro station and, upon leaving, I see Cibeles, Banco de Espana, the Town Hall and my beloved Metropolis building! Just thinking about the beauty of the building fills me with energy, and the great thing is I can see it every day, although us Madrilenos tend to stroll right by it, taking it for granted. Head over to the metro entrance and be sure to take in all the 360 degree panoramic view has to offer, making a mental note of all beautiful architecture that surrounds you!

I have been living in the capital of Spain for ten years and even so every time I go out I go there. I love taking the subway and in 20 minutes get to Banco de España station, going out to see Cibeles, the Bank of Spain, the town hall and my beloved Metrópolis building.

Magnificent

Lovely building, emblematic of the Spanish capital. It is always worth taking a picture of it, during the day or at night. A good perspective on this building is the terrace roof of the Círculo de Bellas Artes.

Madrid is beautiful

They say cities are chaos, polluted and places where stressed life rules, but Madrid is beautiful. Wherever you look it is intercultural and always full of people at any time, you never feel lonely. Sometimes you don't have to go very far away from your city to find a spot where you feel special only looking at it like the Metrópolis building.
