Nice surprise in Salzburg
The Residenzplatz Weather Station was one of the biggest surprises we found in Salzburg. It's a small weather station in full Baroque pomp hidden away at the foot of the walls of the Residenz. It's not in any guide book that I've seen, and I couldn't help but wonder why. Either way, I decided to photograph each of its faces as, even though I have no particular interest in meteorology, I did find it interesting that this small tower could still give you information like temperature, humidity, and barometric pressure. Apparently, there are lots of little weather stations like this across Austria but this one is by far in the best shape.
Using these weather stations, the scientists of the Enlightenment era began to take the first steps toward the modern school of meteorology which until then had been based on the simple observation of the sky, the flights of birds, and seasonal changes.
