Mesón El Monasterio

The Mesón el Monasterio is a real classic among the restaurants in the northern area of Tenerife. It used to be the monastery of a Dominican monk. In 1990 it was restored and inaugurated as a restaurant.

The menu is made up of typical dishes from Canary Islands, and the specialties include grilled meat and wines. I recommend you try the sweet blood sausage (traditional from Canary Islands) and the sirloin with avocado, exquisite!

The place is spectacular and the back room is full of birds (ducks and roosters mainly) that run freely along the gardens and fountains. It is an ideal place to eat with your family.

This restaurant used to be a monastery. This is why it has a museum-like decoration with ancient paintings and lamps and patios full of animals: peacocks, ducks and hens, mainly.

It is divided in levels: terraces with an open kitchen, intimate areas and a cafeteria with a spectacular view. The meat is very tender and juicy, we specially recommend the grill with avocado sauce and sautéed potatoes. Also the breakfasts, the "quesillo" (a type of cheese) and the desserts in the cafeteria.

If you have children, don't hesitate because they will have a great time with the animals. They have free parking.

This restaurant has different rooms and kitchens in each one of of its ancient style buildings that are perfectly preserved. They have a selected cuisine prepared in a traditional manner and a great variety of wines and desserts. They have a great cellar prepared for weddings and events, as well as a chapel that has been adapted as a restaurant.

The quality-price relationship is excellent. I celebrated my wedding there 9 years ago, my children's baptisms and my family's special days. We like to go there at least once a month and we never grow tired of it.
