Cross that was the commercial center of the village
In the heart of Doune (about 10 km from Stirling) is the historic Mercat Cross or Cruz Market (Mercat Cross) which was a crossroads as the commercial center of the village in Medieval times. Of all the existing crossings Scotland (the most famous in Edinburgh), it is known for its good preservation and clear orientation to the East. Currently it is at an intersection of 3 roads, and has no function whatsoever, just cultural traveler who stops on his way to contemplate and study its interesting history on their way through the village.
