Amazing place to eat and drink
The Mercado de San Fernando is an old-school neighborhood market found in Madrid’s down-at-heel, multicultural neighborhood of Lavapies. After years of losing both customers and vendors, the market has been revived by young upstarts and local entrepreneurs who’ve set up shop selling everything from organic wines and craft beer to natural cosmetics, sushi, homemade Greek food, and much, much more.
Nowadays, if you go to the market on a weekend afternoon, you’ll find it packed with local families, young hipsters, foodies, and elderly neighbors all crawling from bar to bar and enjoying the market-fresh tapas on offer (in fact, a lot of the traditional vendors like butchers have set up grills in their shops!).
