A view of the pyramids
The Mena House Oberoi Hotel is a luxurious palace in Giza, just in front of the entrance to the ancient site of Giza and the three pyramids. It's not my favourite place to stay because you can't take advantage of Cairo's nightlife, and taxis and transport get a bit complicated. But to spend a day or two there is ideal because you can reach the pyramids in the morning before the site gets filled with tourists. The hotel is a century and a half old. It's in a magnificent lush garden, and everything is classically decorated in English colonial style with a small oriental touch. It has several restaurants and bars inside.
Oberoi is a hotel chain. The rooms cost 170 euros/night for a standard garden view and a small balcony. The large rooms cost 210 euros/night, but you can request a view of the pyramids!
