Melk Abbey

Excellent

Melk Abbey is gorgeous. We arrived by boat on the Danuvio which was a great experience because you can see castles on the tops of some mountains as you travel. When we arrived at Abbey Well we were surprised, not only for its size but for its beauty. In the library of Abbey Well, scenes from the film In the Name of the Rose were filmed, probably because it is such a beautiful location. I have posted some pictures to give you an idea of the experience

Stairway to Heaven

Visiting Melk Abbey, situated on the river Danube in Austria, should be included in anybody's travel plans. The spiral staircase invited me to call it "Stairway to Heaven".

Pardon the delay and leave half this...

Pardon the delay and leave half this corner in today. Melk Benedictine Abada, for me, to date, the most sacred asset residence exaggerated and arrogant I've been fortunate to visit (excluding the Vatican, but it was clear). My pride atheist, and more when I travel with my father, which is worse than I do with these imperial buildings, we always plays a trick, impidindonos often feel blasphemous excess dialectic. But 900 years this abbey was with us; not end up being the sin of obscene grotesque, perhaps discovering an elitist taste in Benedictine (little Saban compartindolo them they finished with thousands of tourists as "special" as my father and I) and the abbey of Melk is an explicit reference to the Baroque but not tired at all. With a library with 100 thousand copies (and the evidence of their passage through all of many and many "big" our little like Arundhati Roy or Saramago) and architectural elegance in every detail, sculptural and each fresh ... and the most overwhelming church have come my eyes. This fortification is an example of the power of a little, s, but the master has his visit is to understand the results when they have the means to overwhelm the world.

Stift Melk is the Abbey that inspired the famous novel by Umberto Eco's "The Name of the Rose." Just half an hour from Vienna, the 11th-century abbey is extremely beautiful and impressive, majestically overlooking the small town of Melk. The tour is interesting, especially for the large library and a chapel richly decorated. In addition, it houses exhibits of art and history, on various topics. You can also enjoy the abbey grounds and gardens for a stroll! The city of Melk at the foot of the abbey, is very touristy (many souvenir shops), but it is also typically Austrian, and it is nice to walk.
