An epic and poetic place
Montblanc is a surprise hidden in the heart of the Tarragona province and proves once and for all that Tarragona’s charms aren’t limited to just the beach! The medieval district is beautiful and well-preserved and has a touch of modesty which I really liked. The old Jewish quarter, winding narrow streets, archways, convents, churches, and palaces are all found here, but I especially liked the walled city. That this place has been declared a Historic-Artistic Monument is no surprise. It’s fun to get lost in the narrow streets, explore the cute little shops and art galleries, and visit the museums.
It’s a place where the stones talk and have a lot of history to tell, especially about the city’s most famous legend: that of Sant Jordí i el Drac (St. George and the Dragon), a legend which gave birth to one of the most beautiful festivals in all of Catalonia. Feeling like a prince or princess in a fairy tale is pretty easy when you’re in a place like this. An entire magical world of knights, princesses, and legends comes alive in this beautiful and incomparable part of Tarragona. All you have to do is pass under the archway.
