Best Meal in Marrakech

Excellent

I swear. It's delicious! Just a few feet north of Jemaa el Fnaa, there's a whole street dedicated to roasting and serving whole lambs. Depending on what you want, you should get there are various times in the day. It's only open for lunch, but the lambs come out at 11am. This is when you can get the choice cuts straight out of the clay-pit oven in the base of the vendor's stand. Afterwards though, they cut the lamb into chunks, then put it into clay jars with spices and preserved lemons and put it back into the oven. The effect of this is that the lamb is melt-in-your-mouth tender and deliciously spiced by the lemons. If you're looking for that, get there around 1 or 1:30 (it closes at around 2pm).

A half kilo (little more than a pound) of lamb should suffice for two people. With bread and a large bottle of water, the bill shouldn't come out to more than 60 Dirham, or around 7 dollars. It's a steal! It's some of the best lamb I've ever had in my life, not to mention a great way to experience traditional Moroccan food. So, I'd say ditch the touristy English-menu grills and over-priced European-style cafés that are so common in the Medina and head down to lamb alley to gorge yourself on pounds of heavenly, juicy, tender roast lamb.
