Mayflower II

El Mayflower II es una réplica del homónimo barco del siglo XVII en el que los peregrinos ingleses llegaron a las costas del Nuevo Mundo. Esta réplica forma parte de la Plymouth Plantation, un parque que reconstruye el estilo de vida de América del Norte en el siglo XVII, tras la llegada de los peregrinos y cuando estos convivían con la tribu Wampanoang, originaria de esta zona cercana a Cape Cod. Sin embargo, el barco se encuentra anclado en el puerto de Plymouth, a unos kilómetros de esta reconstrucción por lo que constituye una de las atracciones turísticas más importantes de la localidad de Plymouth. El Mayflower II, la réplica, fue construido a mediados del siglo XX en Devon, Inglaterra. Realmente en su construcción no se pensó en destinarlo a una atracción turísticas sino que se realizó como una representación de la alianza entre Estados Unidos e Inglaterra durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial y fue botado el 22 de septiembre de 1956. Actualmente se puede visitar ya que su interior, salvo algunas aplicaciones modernas como la luz eléctrica, es bastante fiel al original. Eso sí, hasta 2020 solo se puede visitar en verano ya que el durante el resto del año el bardo se traslada e un dique seco en Mystic Seaport donde desde 2014 se realizan los trabajos de restauración de la nave.
